Some credit card customers could enjoy better perks with their credit cards. The move is made with hopes that you'll put their credit cards at the top of your wallet. They're called "earnings accelerators" by the credit card companies and the goal is to make their credit card more appealing than others. Here are some of the enhanced perks you may notice:
- Citigroup Inc. customers holding the card with the American Airlines logo will now get 1.2 miles for every dollar the spend with the card. That's an increase of 20%.
- JPMorgan Chase & Co. improved the miles-to-dollar ratio for their British Airways card. Now you'll earn 25% more which means you'll get 1.25 miles for every $1 spent.
- Chase also enhanced your ability to rack up Marriott rewards with certain cards.
According to reports, another goal of the enhanced perks is to lure you into using your credit card rather than your debit card. According to a Nilson Report, credit card use fell for the first time in 2009. It dropped to 11 percent or $1.9 trillion. During that same time period debit card use increased by 7 percent to $1.45 trillion.
