While credit card rewards are more talked about, many banks also offer debit card rewards. Just like with credit card rewards, you can earn things like airline miles, gift certificates and points redeemable for other gifts. According to reports by the Associated Press, these types of rewards are becoming more prevalent. Here is a quick overview of some of the rewards available for using debit cards:
Bank of America Debit Rewards
For a $30 annual fee you can earn one airline mile with US Airways or Alaska Air for every $2 spent with your Bank of America debit card. You can also sign up for a Nascar card which gives you one point for every $4 you spend. Another reward program is called "Keep the Change." For every purchase you make, the dollar amount is rounded up to the nearest whole dollar. That extra money is transferred to a savings account. For the first three months, BOA will match what you save. Matches are capped at $250 a year.
Chase Debit Rewards
There are a few different debit rewards programs available for Chase customers. A free program is Chase Extras where cardholders receive one point for every $5 spent. When you pay a $25 annual fee you can earn four times the points, but it will take you thousands of points to earn gift cards, so it's best to do the math to determine if paying the annual fee is worth it. There are also airline miles programs available where you either earn one mile or two miles for every dollar spent, depending on the annual fee you are willing to pay.
Citi Debit Rewards
When you sign for a debit purchase you'll earn one point for every $2 spent. If you put in your PIN code, you'll get one point for every $2 spent. But there are no annual fees for this debit reward program.
Wells Fargo Debit Rewards
With Wells Fargo debit rewards you can get one point for every $4 worth of purchases made when you sign. You can also shop through the Wells Fargo mall and earn 16 points for every $1 spent. There is a $12 annual fee.
