Hundreds of people picking up Quarter Pounders and milk shakes ended up paying far more than they planned. Police say an employee at a Louisiana McDonald's installed a skimmer on one of the restaurant's credit card machines. A skimmer is a device that records credit card numbers and information illegally. "And the device reads the information on the tape on the credit card, and stores it. That is everything from the person's name, account number, and other information," said Mark Natale with the Bossier City Police Department, according to KSLA.

Police arrested Sankeyno Rakeem Taylor and charged him with ten counts of skimming. But investigators believe there could be more victims. Taylor sold the information to people in Texas, according to officials. The credit card company noticed suspicious activity and tipped off police. McDonald's officials worked with police to make the arrest. "Potentially there could be a few hundred people who may have had their information compromised," said Natale.

Bossier City investigators are urging customers at the McDonald's on Airline Drive to monitor their credit card statements closely to identify any unusual activity. They say it happened mostly to customers who used the drive thru. You can also set up fraud alerts on your credit cards and if you see a cashier swiping your card more than once, make sure you ask why.
